What is email deliverability?
Email deliverability is whether your mail reaches the inbox rather than the spam folder or nowhere at all. It is distinct from delivery: a message can be accepted by the receiving server and still never be seen. Authentication, sender reputation, list quality and recipient engagement decide it.
Delivery is a yes from the receiving server during the SMTP conversation. Deliverability is what happens after that: inbox, spam folder, or a tab nobody opens. Your sending platform reports the first and cannot see the second.
Four inputs matter. Authentication, meaning SPF, DKIM and DMARC aligned. Reputation, which is your bounce and complaint history at each provider. List quality, which is what verification addresses. And engagement, because opens and replies are the strongest positive signal there is.
Only one of those can be fixed before you send. Bounces are removed by verification; everything else is earned over weeks of sending.
Since 2024 the large providers have also published hard requirements for bulk senders. Missing them is no longer a placement problem but a rejection, so deliverability now starts with meeting those rules.
