Hunter.io Alternative (2026): Find and Verify Emails Without Credits

Hunter.io costs $49 a month for 4,000 verifications, or $408 for a year, metered as 2,000 credits/mo from $49; a verification costs 0.5 credits. SimpleVerifier starts at $9 a month for 2,500 emails a month, and Pro is $39 a month with email verification that is never cut off (the first 100,000 a month run at full speed), plus the email finder and enrichment. The first 100 checks are free with a Google sign-in. Both run real SMTP mailbox checks. Keep Hunter.io if you use Hunter as an outreach platform — campaigns, sequences, connected mailboxes and the writing assistant. A dedicated verifier replaces one part of Hunter, not all of it.

Quick answer

What is a cheaper Hunter.io alternative for verifying and finding emails?

SimpleVerifier verifies emails with a real SMTP mailbox check and includes an email finder (name + company to a verified address) on Pro, $39 a month with 100,000 verifications at full speed. Starter is $9 for 2,500 emails. Hunter.io's prices are on this page, checked November 3, 2026. The first 100 checks are free.

What it is
Email verification with a real SMTP mailbox check: each address comes back valid, risky or invalid with a reason. Includes an email finder on Pro and up.
Price per check
Starter $9/mo for 2,500 ($3.60 per 1,000); Pro $39/mo, 100,000 a month at full speed ($0.39 per 1,000 when used), then slower, never cut off. Business $99/mo with 300,000 at full speed; Agency $249/mo with 750,000 at full speed.
One-time packs
10,000 for $15 ($1.50 per 1,000); 25,000 for $29 ($1.16 per 1,000); 50,000 for $49 ($0.98 per 1,000); 100,000 for $79 ($0.79 per 1,000); 250,000 for $169 ($0.68 per 1,000). Credits never expire, run at standard speed, CSV verification only (no API or finder).
Free checks
First 100 email checks free with a Google sign-in, no card, once per account. Single checks on the free email checker need no account.
Billing
Monthly subscription, cancel anytime (yearly billing optional). One-time packs are listed above. Starter allowances reset monthly and do not roll over.
Speed today
One sending IP today, shared by every customer: about 13,000 mailbox checks a day in the standard lane. Bad syntax, dead domains and disposable addresses return at once; a list of 100,000 takes days, not hours, and each job shows its estimated finish time.
Catch-all handling
Catch-all (accept-all) addresses stay risky, never valid, and are graded higher, medium or lower likelihood with the reasons. Anything a mail server does not confirm is risky.
API and MCP
REST API on Pro, Business and Agency (Pro includes 10,000 calls a month, then $1.50 per 1,000). Remote MCP server with 6 tools for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code. No API on Starter.
Integrations
Connects to Instantly, Smartlead, HubSpot and Mailchimp by API key: verifies a campaign or list and tags each contact with its result. CSV in and out for any other tool.
Phone
Free phone format checks (country, type range). Live carrier and line-type lookups come with Pro + Phone at $49.99/mo (5,000 a month). It never says a number is in service.
What it does not do
No sending, warmup or inbox placement tests. No published accuracy benchmark against other verifiers. Catch-all domains, Yahoo and AOL cannot be confirmed, and Outlook.com and Hotmail mailboxes are not probed while Microsoft refuses checks from our server's network: all of these come back risky, never valid.

What it actually costs, by list size

One pass over a list, on Hunter.io’s cheapest available route versus one month of the smallest SimpleVerifier plan that covers it. Where Hunter.iosells both a subscription and pay-as-you-go, the cheaper of the two is used.

Test SimpleVerifier against Hunter.io on a real address

Type any address. It gets the same check the paid plans run: syntax, the domain’s mail servers and, where the provider allows it, a live mailbox check. Nothing is sent to the address.

Five checks a minute, no account needed. Nothing is sent to the address — we ask its mail server whether the mailbox exists, then disconnect.

Hunter is a good product. Before comparing anything, it is worth being straight about what it is: an all-in-one outreach platform. It finds addresses, verifies them, and then sends the campaigns too — sequences, connected mailboxes, an AI writing assistant, a B2B database, team features.

If you use those, nothing in this post replaces Hunter, and you should keep paying for it.

But a lot of people pay for Hunter and use maybe two features: find an address, check it is real. If that is you, the pricing model deserves a closer look.

What Hunter actually costs

Read from Hunter's own pricing page on 22 October 2026:

Plan Billed monthly Billed yearly Credits a month
Free $0 $0 50
Starter $49/mo $34/mo ($408/yr) 2,000
Growth $149/mo $104/mo ($1,248/yr) 10,000
Scale $299/mo $209/mo ($2,508/yr) 25,000

Two details matter more than the headline price.

Verifications cost half a credit. Hunter's FAQ says 0.5 credit is counted per verified email, so Starter's 2,000 credits cover up to 4,000 verifications a month if you search for nothing.

Searching and verifying share one pool. Finding an address and checking it draw on the same credits. Clean a list of 5,000 and Starter's month is gone, with nothing left for searches.

Where the credit model bites

The problem is not the price. It is that the meter changes your behaviour.

You stop verifying lists you should verify, because it costs credits. You guess at an address rather than searching, because searching costs credits. You put off cleaning a list until the bounce rate forces you to — which is precisely the wrong order.

Credits make you ration the thing you should do freely.

The comparison, honestly

Hunter Starter SimpleVerifier Pro
Price (monthly billing) $49/mo $39/mo (Starter: $9/mo for 2,500 verifications)
Try before paying 50 credits a month on Free First 100 checks free, no card
Email searches 2,000 credits/month, shared No counter (fair use)

Website enrichment Included in credits No counter (fair use)
Campaign sending ✅ Yes ❌ No
Sequences and mailboxes ✅ Yes ❌ No
AI writing assistant ✅ Yes ❌ No
B2B database ✅ Yes ❌ No

That table is the whole decision. We do three things without a per-use counter. Hunter does considerably more, with one.

Why we can run these without credits and Hunter cannot

This is worth explaining, because "unlimited" is usually a marketing word, so we do not use it: Pro has a fair-use limit (the first 100,000 verifications a month at full speed, then slower, never cut off).

Verifying a mailbox means opening an SMTP connection to the recipient's mail server and asking whether the address exists. Nobody bills us for that connection. Finding an address means generating the handful of conventions a company might use and checking which one exists — the same SMTP check, so the same zero cost. Enrichment means reading a page the company published to be contacted through.

Our marginal cost per verification is essentially zero, so metering it would exist only to charge you more. Hunter's costs are different because their product is different — they maintain a B2B database and send mail on your behalf, and both carry real per-unit costs.

Skipping the counter is not us being generous. It is a consequence of doing less.

Who should switch, and who should not

Consider switching if:

  • You use Hunter mainly to find and verify addresses
  • You send from a separate tool already — Instantly, Smartlead, Lemlist, your own mailbox
  • You have ever avoided verifying a list because of credits
  • $49 to $149 a month feels heavy for two features

Stay with Hunter if:

  • You run campaigns inside it
  • Your team relies on its sequences or shared inboxes
  • You use the Discover B2B database
  • Its integrations are wired into your CRM

Do not take our word for it

Whatever you choose, test it. Put a fabricated address at a large provider into both tools — something like [email protected]. Gmail rejects unknown mailboxes, so the only correct answer is invalid.

We wrote about that test in more detail here, including the version our own engine used to fail. Run it on us before you trust us.

Who should pick which

Pick Hunter.io if

you run cold outreach from Hunter itself and want finding, verifying and sending in one tool.

Pick SimpleVerifier if

you need to verify large lists from any source and already send from another tool such as Instantly or Smartlead.

Where Hunter.io is better

  • Hunter is a full outreach suite: domain search, an email finder and campaigns, not only verification.
  • Its integrations page lists native connections to CRMs such as HubSpot, to Gmail, Google Sheets and Zapier, plus MCP servers for AI agents.
  • Unknown results do not consume credits.

Where SimpleVerifier is better

  • Verification is not metered on our plan; Hunter Starter is $49 a month for 2,000 credits, which is 4,000 verifications.
  • Our $39 plan includes phone number validation and an unmetered email finder.
  • Results are cached for 14 days, so a re-check of the same addresses is not billed again.

Hunter.io without paying: 50 credits a month on the Free plan (a verification costs 0.5 credits)

Common questions

How much does Hunter.io cost?
Hunter's paid plans start at Starter, $49 per month billed monthly or $34 per month billed yearly ($408), with 2,000 credits a month. Growth is $149 monthly or $104 a month yearly for 10,000 credits a month, and Scale $299 or $209 for 25,000. A verification costs 0.5 credits. Pricing read from hunter.io on 22 October 2026.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Hunter.io?
Yes, if you only need to find and verify email addresses. SimpleVerifier Pro is $39 a month with no credits: verification is never cut off (the first 100,000 checks a month at full speed, then slower) and finder searches run under fair use; Starter is $9 a month for 2,500 verifications, and the first 100 checks are free. Hunter is better value if you also need its outreach campaigns, sequences and inbox tools, which it includes and dedicated verifiers do not.
What is a Hunter credit used for?
Credits are spent when you search for an address or verify one. Hunter's FAQ says 0.5 credit is counted per verified email, so a plan's verification capacity is twice its credit count, shared with the searches you run from the same pool.
Can I replace Hunter.io entirely?
Only if you use it for finding and verifying. Hunter is an all-in-one outreach platform with campaign sending, sequences, connected mailboxes and an AI writing assistant. If those are part of your workflow, a dedicated verifier replaces one part of Hunter, not all of it.
