What is a role-based email address?
Also called: role address, role account, generic email
A role-based email address belongs to a function rather than a person: info@, sales@, support@, admin@, billing@. They are usually real and deliverable, but they are read by shared inboxes or by nobody, so they perform badly in outreach and attract more spam complaints than personal addresses.
Verification tools flag role addresses separately because deliverability and usefulness are different questions. [email protected] will accept your mail; it will rarely reach the decision-maker you wanted.
For cold outreach, exclude them. For transactional or support mail they are often exactly the right address, so flag them rather than delete them: billing@ is a perfectly good contact for an invoice.
Some role addresses exist by rule. RFC 5321 requires every mail domain to accept mail for postmaster@, and RFC 2142 recommends abuse@. Those inboxes are read by the people who handle spam reports, which makes them a poor place to send a pitch.
How SimpleVerifier handles it
Addresses with a common role prefix (info, sales, support, admin and similar) are returned as risky with the reason Role-based address, so you can keep them out of cold campaigns without losing them.
