Hong Kong phone number format
How do you format a Hong Kong phone number?
Write a Hong Kong phone number with the country code +852. A mobile looks like 5123 4567 inside Hong Kong and +852 5123 4567 from abroad. Mobiles have 8 digits after the country code, and the E.164 form is +85251234567. A format check confirms the digits fit the numbering plan, not that the number is in service.

| Format | Mobile | Landline |
|---|---|---|
| National (inside Hong Kong) | 5123 4567 | 2123 4567 |
| International | +852 5123 4567 | +852 2123 4567 |
| E.164 | +85251234567 | +85221234567 |
How to write a Hong Kong number in E.164
- Remove spaces, dashes, dots and brackets so only digits are left.
- Hong Kong has no trunk prefix, so keep every digit of the national number.
- Put +852 in front. The result has 8 digits after the country code for a mobile.
So 5123 4567 becomes +85251234567. E.164 is the format SMS gateways, dialers and most CRMs store; see the E.164 format explained for why.
Mobile or landline?
Hong Kong allocates separate number ranges to mobiles and landlines, so a numbering-plan check reads the line type straight from the digits, for free. That type describes the range the number came from. It doesn’t prove the number is connected today.
Mobile, landline and special number ranges in Hong Kong
A Hong Kong mobile number starts with 40, 42, 44, 46, 47, 51–57, 59, 6, 70, 71, 84, 90–98 after +852. Every valid number of each type below starts with one of the digit groups shown. A number that starts the right way can still be unassigned: the groups say what a range is for, not that a number is connected.

Common questions
- What is the country code for Hong Kong?
- The country calling code for Hong Kong is +852. When you call Hong Kong from abroad, dial your international prefix (or +) followed by 852 and the number.
- How many digits is a Hong Kong phone number?
- A Hong Kong mobile number has 8 digits after the country code +852, the same as a landline.
- How do I write a Hong Kong number in international format?
- Start with +852, then add the rest of the number. The mobile number 5123 4567 becomes +852 5123 4567, or +85251234567 in E.164, the form most CRMs and SMS tools expect.
- Can you tell if a Hong Kong number is a mobile?
- Usually, yes. Hong Kong numbers come from ranges allocated separately to mobiles and landlines, so a numbering-plan check reads the line type from the digits. It tells you what the range is for, not whether the number is in service.
- Does a valid format mean a Hong Kong number is in service?
- No. A valid format means the digits fit a range Hong Kong's numbering plan allocates. It cannot tell whether the number is connected today or who carries it, because numbers are reassigned and ported. A live carrier lookup reports the current carrier and line type, but even that does not prove someone answers.
- Can I check a list of Hong Kong numbers for free?
- Yes. Paste them in the list tab above or upload a CSV to the bulk phone number validator: E.164, country, format status and numbering-plan line type are free for every row, with no account. Live carrier and line-type lookups come with Pro + Phone at $49.99/mo (5,000 a month).
