Every valid Rwanda number of each type starts with one of these digit groups. The example column shows Google’s example number for the range, written internationally.

What each type means for the caller

Toll-free: 0800
Free to the caller, usually only from inside the country; the business that owns the number pays for the call. 9 digits after +250.
Premium rate: 0900
Charged above a normal call at a rate set by the service, with part of the charge going to the service provider. 9 digits after +250.

Writing and dialling a Rwanda toll-free number

Inside Rwanda, dial the number with its leading 0. From abroad or in E.164, drop the 0 and put +250 in front: 0800 123 456 becomes +250800123456. Many freephone numbers still only accept calls from inside Rwanda, and a call from abroad that does connect is usually charged.

Toll-free and premium numbers in a phone list

In a lead or customer list, a toll-free number usually reaches a company line rather than a person, and a premium-rate number costs you money to call. The free toll-free number checker flags them in a pasted list or CSV, and the Rwanda phone number format page covers mobiles and landlines.

Common questions

What is the toll-free prefix in Rwanda?
Rwanda toll-free numbers start with 0800 at home, written +250 800 internationally. Every valid toll-free number starts that way, though not every number with those digits is in service.
How many digits is a Rwanda toll-free number?
9 digits after the country code +250, plus the trunk prefix 0 when dialled inside Rwanda.
Can I call a Rwanda toll-free number from abroad?
Sometimes. Dial +250 and the number without the leading 0. Many freephone numbers only take calls from inside Rwanda, and where they do connect from abroad the call is usually charged.
How do I spot a premium-rate number in Rwanda?
By its first digits: 0900. The prefix tells you the range is charged; the actual price is set per service.

The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.

In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.

  • 5,000 live carrier lookups a month: real line type, including US numbers
  • Carrier name for every number looked up
  • Upload a CSV up to 100,000 rows; emails in the same file get a mailbox check
