How to verify a Fastmail address
Can you verify @fastmail.com addresses?
YesYes. @fastmail.com answers mailbox checks one address at a time.
Check one address
Five checks a minute, no account needed. Nothing is sent to the address — we ask its mail server whether the mailbox exists, then disconnect.
Checking a whole list? The first 100 addresses are free, with results to download. No card.

The checker opens an SMTP conversation with fastmail.com's mail server, offers a random address first to rule out a catch-all, then names your address at RCPT TO and disconnects without sending. A rejection comes back invalid ("Mailbox not found") and an acceptance valid ("Mailbox exists"). Temporary replies come back risky. It always checks the syntax, the domain's MX records, disposable domains and role addresses such as info@ first.
Mailbox existsMailbox not foundServer would not confirmFastmail addresses can be checked over SMTP. On 7 October 2026 our live checker offered Fastmail a made-up address and it was rejected as not found, so Fastmail answers about individual mailboxes. Fastmail also supports plus and subdomain addressing, and says usernames on deleted accounts can be reused, so recheck old Fastmail addresses rather than trusting a past result.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

Reading a Fastmail result
Fastmail's servers will discuss a recipient, but only with a checking server they trust. Like most providers, they screen the connecting IP against reputation lists first. RFC 3463 puts x.7.x codes in the security and policy class, so a 5.7.1 naming a blocklist is a refusal of the checker, not a missing mailbox.
This is the most common way verifiers produce false invalids on small, well-run providers. A tool that maps every 5xx to "invalid" would report real Fastmail users dead whenever its own IP is blocked. A careful verifier checks the enhanced code and returns unknown for policy rejections. If you run your own checks, look up your server's IP first with the blacklist checker.
Plus and subdomain addressing
Fastmail supports two ways to create disposable variations of one address. Plus addressing works as elsewhere, while subdomain addressing moves the tag in front: [email protected] lands in the same account as [email protected]. Subdomain addresses defeat simple de-duplication that only strips plus tags, so if Fastmail users matter to you, normalise both forms before counting unique people.
Fastmail is paid, and old addresses can change hands
Fastmail has no free plan; its trial page says trials last up to 30 days and accounts lose the ability to send and receive if they are not paid for, then are disabled and eventually deleted. Paid accounts that lapse follow the same path, and Fastmail's help says that once an account is deleted "the username and any addresses on the account can be re-used."
That last point matters for list hygiene. A Fastmail address from a trial signup years ago may now belong to someone else entirely, who never agreed to hear from you. Re-confirm consent with old Fastmail contacts rather than relying on an old opt-in, and treat repeated bounces as final.
Common questions
- Can you verify @fastmail.com addresses?
- Yes. @fastmail.com answers mailbox checks one address at a time. - Can you verify a Fastmail address without sending?
- Yes. On 7 October 2026 our live checker's made-up fastmail.com address was rejected as not found, so Fastmail answers about individual mailboxes. A 5.7.x rejection, by contrast, is about the checking server's reputation and tells you nothing about the mailbox.
- Does Fastmail support plus addressing?
- Yes. Fastmail's help says mail to alias+anything at your domain still reaches the account, and it also supports subdomain addressing, where [email protected] reaches the same mailbox.
- Can a deleted Fastmail address be reused?
- Yes. Fastmail's help page on expired subscriptions says that once an account has been deleted, the username and any addresses on it can be re-used.
