Free-to-call and charged ranges in Brazil

Every valid Brazil number of each type starts with one of these digit groups. The example column shows Google’s example number for the range, written internationally.

What each type means for the caller

Toll-free: 800
Free to the caller, usually only from inside the country; the business that owns the number pays for the call. 9 or 10 digits after +55.
Premium rate: 500 or 900
Charged above a normal call at a rate set by the service, with part of the charge going to the service provider. 9 or 10 digits after +55.
Shared cost: 300, 303, 400, 4020, 4370 or 4864
The caller pays part of the cost and the owner pays the rest, so the price sits between a free and a normal call. 8 or 10 digits after +55.

Writing and dialling a Brazil toll-free number

Brazil has no trunk prefix, so the number is the same at home and abroad; in E.164 put +55 in front: 0800 12 3456 becomes +55800123456. Google's data marks the toll-free range as not diallable from abroad, so these numbers usually only work from inside Brazil.

Toll-free and premium numbers in a phone list

In a lead or customer list, a toll-free number usually reaches a company line rather than a person, and a premium-rate number costs you money to call. The free toll-free number checker flags them in a pasted list or CSV, and the Brazil phone number format page covers mobiles and landlines.

Next step

A prefix says what a range is for. A live lookup says what the line is now.

Pro + Phone is $49.99 a month (or $499.90 a year): upload a CSV and every number gets a live line-type and carrier lookup, with the emails in the same file checked too.

How many digits is a Brazil toll-free number?
9 or 10 digits after the country code +55.
Can I call a Brazil toll-free number from abroad?
Google's numbering-plan data marks Brazil's toll-free range as not diallable from abroad, so expect the call to fail from outside Brazil.
How do I spot a premium-rate number in Brazil?
By its first digits: 500 or 900. Shared-cost numbers start with 300, 303, 400, 4020, 4370 or 4864. The prefix tells you the range is charged; the actual price is set per service.

The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.

In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.

  • 5,000 live carrier lookups a month: real line type, including US numbers
  • Carrier name for every number looked up
  • Upload a CSV up to 100,000 rows; emails in the same file get a mailbox check
