Toll-free and premium numbers in Romania
Toll-free numbers in Romania start with 0800 when dialled inside Romania (800 after +40 from abroad) and have 9 digits after the country code. Premium-rate numbers start with 0900, 0901, 0903 or 0906. Example: 0800 123 456, or +40800123456 in E.164.

Every valid Romania number of each type starts with one of these digit groups. The example column shows Google’s example number for the range, written internationally.

What each type means for the caller
- Toll-free: 0800
- Free to the caller, usually only from inside the country; the business that owns the number pays for the call. 9 digits after +40.
- Premium rate: 0900, 0901, 0903 or 0906
- Charged above a normal call at a rate set by the service, with part of the charge going to the service provider. 9 digits after +40.
- Shared cost: 0801
- The caller pays part of the cost and the owner pays the rest, so the price sits between a free and a normal call. 9 digits after +40.
- Universal access (UAN): 037, 0805, 0807 or 0808
- One national number for a business with several sites, routed to the nearest or chosen office. 9 digits after +40.
Writing and dialling a Romania toll-free number
Inside Romania, dial the number with its leading 0. From abroad or in E.164, drop the 0 and put +40 in front: 0800 123 456 becomes +40800123456. Many freephone numbers still only accept calls from inside Romania, and a call from abroad that does connect is usually charged.
Toll-free and premium numbers in a phone list
In a lead or customer list, a toll-free number usually reaches a company line rather than a person, and a premium-rate number costs you money to call. The free toll-free number checker flags them in a pasted list or CSV, and the Romania phone number format page covers mobiles and landlines.

Common questions
- What is the toll-free prefix in Romania?
- Romania toll-free numbers start with 0800 at home, written +40 800 internationally. Every valid toll-free number starts that way, though not every number with those digits is in service.
- How many digits is a Romania toll-free number?
- 9 digits after the country code +40, plus the trunk prefix 0 when dialled inside Romania.
- Can I call a Romania toll-free number from abroad?
- Sometimes. Dial +40 and the number without the leading 0. Many freephone numbers only take calls from inside Romania, and where they do connect from abroad the call is usually charged.
- How do I spot a premium-rate number in Romania?
- By its first digits: 0900, 0901, 0903 or 0906. Shared-cost numbers start with 0801. The prefix tells you the range is charged; the actual price is set per service.

The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.
In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.
