What each type means for the caller
- Toll-free: 00004, 0405, 0800 or 0805
- Free to the caller, usually only from inside the country; the business that owns the number pays for the call. 6 to 13 digits after +598.
- Premium rate: 0900–0908
- Charged above a normal call at a rate set by the service, with part of the charge going to the service provider. 7 digits after +598.
- Universal access (UAN): 021
- One national number for a business with several sites, routed to the nearest or chosen office. 4 or 5 digits after +598.
Writing and dialling a Uruguay toll-free number
Inside Uruguay, dial the number with its leading 0. From abroad or in E.164, drop the 0 and put +598 in front: 0800 1234 becomes +5988001234. Many freephone numbers still only accept calls from inside Uruguay, and a call from abroad that does connect is usually charged.
Toll-free and premium numbers in a phone list
In a lead or customer list, a toll-free number usually reaches a company line rather than a person, and a premium-rate number costs you money to call. The free toll-free number checker flags them in a pasted list or CSV, and the Uruguay phone number format page covers mobiles and landlines.

Common questions
- What is the toll-free prefix in Uruguay?
- Uruguay toll-free numbers start with 00004, 0405, 0800 or 0805 at home, written +598 0004, 405, 800 or 805 internationally. Every valid toll-free number starts that way, though not every number with those digits is in service.
- How many digits is a Uruguay toll-free number?
- 6 to 13 digits after the country code +598, plus the trunk prefix 0 when dialled inside Uruguay.
- Can I call a Uruguay toll-free number from abroad?
- Sometimes. Dial +598 and the number without the leading 0. Many freephone numbers only take calls from inside Uruguay, and where they do connect from abroad the call is usually charged.
- How do I spot a premium-rate number in Uruguay?
- By its first digits: 0900–0908. The prefix tells you the range is charged; the actual price is set per service.

The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.
In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.
