What each type means for the caller
- Toll-free: 0640, 066802, 066809 or 0680
- Free to the caller, usually only from inside the country; the business that owns the number pays for the call. 8 or 9 digits after +36.
- Premium rate: 0690 or 0691
- Charged above a normal call at a rate set by the service, with part of the charge going to the service provider. 8 digits after +36.
- Universal access (UAN): 0638
- One national number for a business with several sites, routed to the nearest or chosen office. 9 digits after +36.
- VoIP: 0621
- Numbers issued for internet telephony services rather than a fixed line or a mobile network. 9 digits after +36.
Writing and dialling a Hungary toll-free number
Inside Hungary, dial the number with its leading 06. From abroad or in E.164, drop the 06 and put +36 in front: 06 80 123 456 becomes +3680123456. Google's data marks the toll-free range as not diallable from abroad, so these numbers usually only work from inside Hungary.
Toll-free and premium numbers in a phone list
In a lead or customer list, a toll-free number usually reaches a company line rather than a person, and a premium-rate number costs you money to call. The free toll-free number checker flags them in a pasted list or CSV, and the Hungary phone number format page covers mobiles and landlines.

Common questions
- What is the toll-free prefix in Hungary?
- Hungary toll-free numbers start with 0640, 066802, 066809 or 0680 at home, written +36 40, 6802, 6809 or 80 internationally. Every valid toll-free number starts that way, though not every number with those digits is in service.
- How many digits is a Hungary toll-free number?
- 8 or 9 digits after the country code +36, plus the trunk prefix 06 when dialled inside Hungary.
- Can I call a Hungary toll-free number from abroad?
- Google's numbering-plan data marks Hungary's toll-free range as not diallable from abroad, so expect the call to fail from outside Hungary.
- How do I spot a premium-rate number in Hungary?
- By its first digits: 0690 or 0691. The prefix tells you the range is charged; the actual price is set per service.

The numbering plan only knows what a range was issued for.
In the US and Canada mobiles and landlines share the same prefixes, and anywhere a number can be ported or reassigned the range stops telling the whole story. A live carrier lookup asks the network data instead, which is what Pro + Phone ($49.99/mo) adds.
