Intercom contacts to email list: unsubscribed, bounced and spam reports set aside
In short: Reads an Intercom users and leads export, sets aside contacts marked Unsubscribed from Emails, Has hard bounced or Marked email as spam, merges repeated addresses and keeps name, company and phone. Limit: Intercom's export columns depend on the attributes you choose; the column names here are read by name and checked in the notes.
Export your users and leads from Intercom's Contacts page as a CSV, with the Unsubscribed from Emails, Has hard bounced and Marked email as spam columns, and upload it here. Contacts marked true in any of them are set aside, repeated addresses merge, and you download an email list ready to verify and import into your email platform.
Price: this tool is free. Checking a whole email list is from $9/mo, and the first 100 checks are free with Google, no card. See pricing

How do I check the Intercom list before a campaign?
- Download the email list here.
- Upload it at /verify. Every address gets a live mailbox check, and valid, risky and invalid download as separate files. The first 100 email checks are free with a Google sign-in, no card.
- Import the valid file into your email platform, and the set-aside file as a suppression list.
How do I turn an Intercom export into a clean email list?
- In Intercom, open Contacts and filter to the users or leads you want, or select all of them.
- Export the contacts as a CSV, including the Unsubscribed from Emails, Has hard bounced and Marked email as spam attributes. Intercom emails a download link.
- Upload or paste the file here and press Build email list. Untick the option if you want unsubscribed contacts kept in the list.
- Download the email list and the set-aside file; import the set-aside file as a suppression list wherever you send next.
Example
- You enter
- An Intercom contacts export of 7 rows with Unsubscribed from Emails, Has hard bounced and Marked email as spam columns: one unsubscribed, one hard-bounced, one marked as spam, and
[email protected]repeating the unsubscribed[email protected]. - You get
- 3 addresses kept ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected]); 3 set aside with the reason (unsubscribed; hard bounced or marked email as spam); the repeat merged, with the unsubscribe winning.
- Limits
- Runs in your browser with no row cap; an uploaded file can be up to 25 MB.
Which Intercom contacts should you leave out of an email list?
The ones Intercom already knows not to email. Intercom's contact model keeps three true/false flags: unsubscribed from emails, has hard bounced and marked email as spam. In a CSV export they appear as the Unsubscribed from Emails, Has hard bounced and Marked email as spam columns. Any contact marked true in one of them is set aside here, with the reason, so you can load them as a suppression list in the next tool.
Intercom only sets Has hard bounced after a message to that address fails. Everyone you haven't emailed yet, often most signups and leads from chat, is unchecked, and product signups collect typos and throwaway inboxes. That's what the mailbox check afterwards is for.
Why does a SaaS signup list bounce?
Signups type their address once, with no confirmation in many products, and work addresses close when people change jobs. A campaign to an old user list bounces on those closed inboxes, and Google's sender guidelines judge a sender on its spam complaints and authentication from the first send. Clean the list before it leaves Intercom, and check it before the first send from a new platform.
Who uses this tool, and for what?
- SaaS teams
- Move product users from Intercom into a newsletter or lifecycle tool without re-adding people who unsubscribed or reported spam.
- Founders
- Pull every signup with an email for a launch announcement, with bounced addresses left out.
- Support teams
- Turn chat leads into a follow-up list for sales, de-duplicated against users with the same address.
What can’t this tool tell you?
- Intercom's export columns depend on the attributes you choose; the column names here are read by name and checked in the notes.
- An address that hard-bounced outside Intercom, or unsubscribed in another tool, isn't detected unless the file says so.
- It can't tell which addresses still have a working inbox.
Common questions
- What columns does the Intercom export need?
- An Email column, plus the Unsubscribed from Emails, Has hard bounced and Marked email as spam columns if you want those contacts set aside. Columns are found by name, so their order doesn't matter.
- What if my export has none of those columns?
- Then opt-outs can't be read and every contact is kept, which the notes say. Export again with those attributes included.
- Are users and leads both read?
- Yes. Any row with an email address is read; rows without one, such as anonymous visitors, are counted and skipped.
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. It is read in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to check the addresses afterwards.

A tidy list can still be full of dead addresses.
Extracting, deduplicating and syntax checks all work on the text of an address. None of them can tell whether the mailbox exists. Only the server that hosts it can answer that, through an SMTP check, and that is what the paid product does.
- Upload the cleaned file as it is: CSVs up to 100,000 rows
- A real SMTP mailbox check on every row, with catch-all detection
